Gee Officer
The lake mirrored the blue sky. Driving along the north shore, I enjoyed the evening breeze after another blistering day.
A shadow appeared over my car and I was astonished to see an enormous fish hurtling toward my windshield. The thought of fish guts strewn across the window spurred me to act quickly. I swerved, narrowly avoiding the fish. It landed with a thwack on the pavement.
A second shadow passed over the car, and I braced myself for another fish. This time an osprey plummeted, intent on its prey. Digging talons into flesh, the bird labored mightily to acheive lift-off. It reached the heights of a spruce tree and tucked into its meal.
Fortunately, there had been no oncoming traffic, or I might have found myself explaining, “Gee officer, I swerved to avoid a fish.”
