Writing Tip weekly/ The Value of Workshops
This Friday kicks off WORD ON THE LAKE, A Festival for Readers and Writers. It’s a weekend of writing workshops, readings and presentations, in Salmon Arm British Columbia. In its ninth year, the festival and has been well received.
Attending a writing event isn’t just about learning something new. It’s about refreshing, energizing. Cast off your everyday mode of expression and try on a new writing cloak. Absorbing knowledge in the atmosphere of an attentive audience, from an insightful presenter, can be inspiring and enlivening.
Our writing styles are all unique. I find, at the end of the festival weekend, that I come away with ten different approaches to writing. These nuggets of wisdom condense to bolster my own style with fresh insights.
Not everyone can hop on a plane and attend this festival. If you don’t live nearby, I recommend seeking out a festival or workshop in your own area. Also, make use of the online writing community who graciously offer their own unique approaches to the writing process. There is a wealth of knowledge out there.
